Comparing COVID-19 Vaccines: How Effective Are They?

The highly transmissible Delta variant is causing a surge in COVID-19 cases, primarily among the unvaccinated, in the United States and other parts of the world. Given the flood of misinformation that is being disseminated, staying updated on the vaccines currently in use, as well as those under development, can be an overwhelming endeavor.

In the United States, there are three COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use by the Federal Drug Administration: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. Two other vaccines are being distributed in the United Kingdom and other countries: Oxford-AstraZeneca and Novavax.
